College of Business and Entrepreneurship Launches Center for Case Study Excellence

FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – When it comes to preparing students for the real world, there is no better way than providing hands-on, practical experiences that can further be used to fortify a reservoir of knowledge for future students.

With this goal in mind, Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship (HCBE) has launched a Center for Case Study Excellence where faculty and students will collaborate with business leaders and entrepreneurs in solving real world issues and writing case studies about them.

“We are committed to helping our students adapt, innovate, influence, and transform organizations, which are skills they will learn by actively engaging business leaders in developing and publishing cases,” explains Andrew Rosman, Ph.D., the dean of HCBE. “Our vision is to become a state-of-the-art institute for case writing, teaching, and publishing and to prepare future leaders as decision makers in business and public service.”

Cases help close the theory-practice gap and demonstrate how business concepts apply to management situations and decision making. The key goals of the Center will be to enhance teaching in the classroom and create new knowledge across the business curriculum.

Where the rubber will truly meet the road in this endeavor will be our opportunities to engage with our strategic partners – the business community, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies – to assist them in their challenges. Our top faculty and students will solicit and engage with these organizations to help them solve real-world management issues they face. Relevant research findings will then be shared with academic and business communities.

The Center will be led by HCBE Marketing Professor Art Weinstein, Ph.D. A three-time recipient of the college’s “Faculty of the Year,” Weinstein teaches a variety of graduate and undergraduate marketing courses and executive seminars with a customer-oriented, strategic marketing focus. Weinstein is an internationally known expert in business-to-business market segmentation and customer value. He also has consulted for leading high-tech manufacturers, publishers, service firms, universities, government agencies, and trade associations.

Leading Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) business schools worldwide use the case method as a key component in their education, particularly at the graduate level. The Center for Case Study Excellence at NSU is a member of the Case Centre (UK). The Case Centre, established more than 50 years ago, has global partnerships with leading business schools.
