I would like to extend my apologies to the entire NSU community and the community at large.
This year’s “Wall of Hate” project resulted in undue and unintended stress, anxiety, and alarm among many members of our community – and understandably so. The type of display this year was a grievous mistake, given the lack of advance notice, and contextual information, coupled with the Middle East crisis and ongoing social strife in many communities across our nation.
This Student Affairs event has taken place at NSU and other colleges and universities across the country over the last 20 years without incident and provided an invaluable lesson in the evils of hate. However, what did transpire this year has taught us a valuable lesson.
Dr. Brad Williams, the Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs and his entire team have reviewed and continue to assess the events from earlier this week, and as such, we have taken corrective measures so that it will not occur in the future. This includes discontinuing the particular “Wall of Hate” display ritual.
NSU remains committed to mutual respect and understanding and we apologize for any distress this event has caused you and others. We will grow and learn from this experience; we owe that to you, our NSU family and the community at large.
