NSU Offers High-Schoolers 5-Day Medical School Summer Camp

FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, FL. – It’s summertime, and Nova Southeastern University’s Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine will open its doors to high-schoolers through its AIM-High program – a five-day medical school immersive summer camp.

Achieve in Medicine (AIM) – High is designed for academically strong freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in the health professions. AIM-High will provide students with hands-on medical experiences, which include the role of technology in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions.

NSU is holding this summer’s session July 17-21 on its main Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus.

With the critical need for future healthcare practitioners, AIM-High provides incentives to those interested in a future in the field. Camp participants will get seven-plus hours of instruction each day and will learn alongside NSU medical students and faculty.

Among the best storytelling and visual options will be:

  • SIMTIC Simulator: Students will rotate through stations and practice intubation skills, obtain vital signs from the medical student volunteers, and listen to heart and lung sounds on our high-fidelity manikins on Tuesday, July 18, at 10 a.m.-noon at the Ziff Building Simulation Lab.
  • Sports Medicine-Splinting Skills Lab: Skills lab wherein the students will learn about using a splint for fractures and other injuries on Tuesday, July 18, at 1-2:30 p.m. in the Sports Medicine Clinic.
  • Labor, delivery, and newborn infant care: Students will be exposed to the Lucina Birth Simulator. Additionally, they will be introduced to the diagnosis and management of normal vaginal, abnormal labor and breech delivery, and the management of the newborn infant. Wednesday, July 19, 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Ziff Sim Lab.
  • Lumbar Puncture & Draw Blood: Students will perform Lumbar Puncture and Draw Blood first using the online SIMTICS simulator and then using manikins, Thursday, July 20, 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Ziff Sim Lab.
  • Immersive Learning Technology in Medical Education: Students will get interactive immersive hands-on experience with Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) 3D Anatomy and Mixed Reality (MR) from Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon at the HPD Medical Library.

Come out and interview our faculty, our students, and camp attendees and witness a unique life-changing summer camp experience.
