FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – Yup, it is that time of year again – time for Pi.
No, not apple…or cherry…or rhubarb. Rather, it’s time to celebrate all things mathematics, thanks to Pi Day (March 14, which is 3.14 or the first three digits of Pi.) And to honor the day and have some fun, students, faculty and staff will gather to enjoy some “real” pie (both pizza and dessert) and play some math-themed games.
The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 14 in front of NSU’s Parker Building on the Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus, 3300 S. University Drive.
While munching on pizza or triple-berry pie, attendees will have the chance to try their luck on a Pi Trivia Wheel and other Pi-themed trivia contests, all intended to teach the exciting history and development of π, everyone’s favorite transcendental number.
“It’s a fun way to enjoy math,” said Jason Gershman, Ph.D., the chairman and associate professor in NSU’s Department of Mathematics. “Hopefully we can get across the message that math isn’t something to be afraid of while enjoying a slice of pizza or playing a Pi game!”
