M.B.A. students Angelique Benda and Frank Natale represented the Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship at the Enactus National Exposition.
With the guidance of Dr. Michele Migliuolo, students in the Social Entrepreneurship Experience class drafted the framework for a social enterprise to produce services and products to benefit the Egbe Medical Mission and the community of Egbe, Nigeria.
NSU 2021 Entrepreneur and Business Hall of Fame Honoree Don Campion, who grew up in Egbe, worked with the students in defining the work.
When Don Campion was born, his parents were medical missionaries in Egbe. His parents established a hospital in 1952 that quickly expanded and continues to serve an even broader community today.
As a child growing up in rural Egbe, Don saw people install their own electric generators, dig wells for water, and build their own homes and furniture. Don flew aboard small aircraft to attend a Protestant American boarding school, sparking his interest in aviation. He attended college in Canada to study aviation and maintenance and earn a commercial pilot’s license. But Nigeria and his parents’ work there are always in his heart.
Campion talked with students about the Egbe Medical Mission he founded to address the economic development opportunities and challenges of the remote village of Egbe, Nigeria. They discussed possible products and capacities including production, packaging abilities, and infrastructure. Students worked in teams to develop minimum viable products that could support the Egbe Medical Mission and bring commercialization to the town.
This work won a coveted spot for presentation for inclusion in the Enactus National Exposition held in Dallas, Texas, in April 2023. Angelique Benda and Frank Natale presented the work on behalf of the HCBE Enactus Chapter. Enactus is an international organization with a mission dedicated to creating a better world while developing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and social innovators.
Nice work, team!
