WHY:               Coral reefs are vital for a health and robust marine ecosystem. But they are also play a vital role in the economic health of Florida, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars via tourism and related businesses.

And our coral reefs are in danger.

That’s why the coral reef research being done at NSU’s Halmos College of Arts and Sciences is so important. To help continue those efforts, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was instrumental in securing $3.8 million to go directly toward coral reef research. These funds are from the 2023 Appropriations bills and are part of more than $40 million in critical local projects secured by the Congresswoman.
