FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. — Dr. Chad Perlyn, Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) chief medical officer, executive vice president, and executive medical director for NSU Health, has been named dean of the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team at the college and playing a valuable role in developing a world-class network with our colleagues across the NSU health care portfolio and the community,” he said.
In his role as dean, Dr. Perlyn will lead the allopathic medical college, established in 2017 as the eighth medical school in Florida. It is part of NSU’s health care division, which provides bachelor’s, master’s, and professional degrees, as well as research and clinical activities. The division includes two medical schools – the College of Allopathic Medicine (M.D.) and the College of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) – and colleges of dental medicine, health care sciences, nursing, psychology, optometry, and pharmacy.
In his new role, Dr. Perlyn will continue to coordinate with the various academic health care disciplines to advance NSU Health’s mission of integrating education, research, and patient care for better health care outcomes, as well as foster research breakthroughs. Under his leadership, NSU will continue its focus on enriching the health care workforce with qualified and caring professionals.
Dr. Perlyn joined the university in December 2024 and also served as a professor at NSU’s Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences. Before coming to NSU, he was the senior vice president of surgical services, community health, and corporate responsibility at Nicklaus Children’s Health System in Miami.
NSU President and CEO Harry K. Moon, M.D., says Dr. Perlyn’s new role at NSU will be yet another feather in the university’s health care cap.
“I have the utmost respect and confidence in Dr. Perlyn to continue NSU Health’s leadership in cutting-edge and collaborative health care education, research, and clinical practices in a world where such excellence and workforce preparedness is desperately needed,” he said.
Dr. Perlyn earned his M.D. degree at the University of Miami and did surgical training at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He completed a doctorate in craniofacial molecular biology at the University of Oxford under his fellowship from the American College of Surgeons. He holds a master’s degree in business administration in health care education from the University of Miami’s Herbert Business School and earned his undergraduate degree in English literature from Northwestern University.
“I’ve had a blessed career, thus far as a physician, as a scientist, and a health care executive,” said Dr. Perlyn. “When Dr. Moon asked me if I would like to be involved with NSU and its mission to improve patient outcomes now and into the future on a global stage, the answer was a resounding yes.”
