NSU Business Students Pitch Business Plans With Thousands in Seed Money on the Line

FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – “Shark Tank,” a reality TV show about American business, debuted in August 2009. In the show, potential entrepreneurs would make business presentations for a panel of venture capitalists in hopes of convincing them to invest in their companies.

Fast forward to Friday, May 5, 2023, and Nova Southeastern University has plans to take the “Shark Tank” concept to another level with a special class of graduating Sharks.

The 2023 Huizenga Business Innovation Academy Seed Funding Pitch Day is NSU’s version of the “Shark Tank,” and the stakes are high. The college has a pool of $500,000 awaiting the next wave of young entrepreneurs. Students who successfully pitch their business plans will each receive $20,000 in seed funding to further develop their dreams.

THERE WILL BE GREAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR STORYTELLING, VIDEO, PHOTOS, and INTERVIEWS.

Pitch Day will take place Friday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alan B. Levan I NSU Broward Center of Innovation on the top floor of NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library.

This semester, the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship graduates its inaugural class from its Huizenga Business Innovation Academy, where students are able to earn their bachelor’s degree and M.B.A. in just four years. The academy is fertile ground for entrepreneurial development – an incubator where students spend four years immersed in the ins and outs of developing their own business plans.

At the academy, students learn to be an agile and adaptable business leader from faculty who already are. They get hands-on, practical experience, with plenty of internship and experiential learning opportunities with an NSU corporate partner, entrepreneur, or business advisory board member. They also get to run their own student business during a special summer boot camp.

On Friday, May 5, 2023, the pressure will be on. The excitement will be palpable. And the competition will be fierce.

Come out for the chance to connect with future business leaders. Interview them, as well as the college’s faculty and staff, and the panelists.
