FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After a pair of stalwart performances on the mound in the National League Divisional Series (NLDS) for the St. Louis Cardinals, Nova Southeastern University alum pitcher Miles Mikolas will again get the ball for the franchise to open up the rotation in the National League Championship Series (NLCS). NLCS action between the Cardinals and Washington Nationals begins at 8:08 p.m. EST in St. Louis on Friday, Oct. 11.
Mikolas claimed the first start for the Cardinals in the NLDS, settling in on a 5.0-inning, three-hit performance against the Atlanta Braves on Oct. 3. Holding a 1.80 ERA in the series opener, Mikolas allowed a single run and struck out a pair of Braves hitters.
He returned to action in game four in late relief, knocking down the Braves on a 1-2-3 inning for the win in the 10th, setting up the Cardinals offense for the 5-4 walk-off St. Louis Win.
On the year, Mikolas finished the 2019 regular season with a 4.16 ERA and 9-14 record in 32 starts and holds a 1.50 ERA in two games of the postseason with a 1-0 record. Mikolas squares off against Nationals right-hander Aníbal Sánchez in game one on Friday at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. First pitch is slated for 8:08 p.m. EST.
In 32 career games at Busch Stadium, Mikolas is 13-10 across 200.2 innings, collecting 145 strikeouts versus 24 walks and notching a 2.56 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.
Finishing up his NSU career in 2009, Mikolas is scheduled for induction into the NSU Athletics Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Nov. 5 in Fort Lauderdale. He was initially drafted by the San Diego Padres following his junior season. Mikolas made 32 starts for the Sharks, notching five complete games in 200.2 innings across his three-year Sharks career. With a 15-8 record in 38 appearances, Mikolas finished his time at NSU with a 3.68 career ERA.
The best-of-seven NLCS between the Nats and Cards will be broadcast on TBS.
