Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship added to its educational portfolio with the unveiling of the Jerry Taylor and Nancy Bryant Trading Floor on Friday, May 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The trading floor, housed on the second floor of the Carl DeSantis Building at 3050 Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd, Davie, Fla., will support the college’s Student-Managed Investment Fund. It was made possible by a donation from husband-wife philanthropists Jerry Taylor and Nancy Bryant who moved to Florida from the Washington, D.C., area in 1998, and have been supporters of the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale.
“The big advantage of the trading floor is the support for the student managed investment fund,” said Antonio Figueiredo, associate professor of finance at the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. “By being part of the fund, students will get a chance to put in practice the theory that they learned in the classroom, and much more importantly, they will be able to develop their critical thinking skills.”
Features of the new trading floor include:
- A conference room that will be used weekly by the Student-Managed Investment Fund for discussions on current market conditions, portfolio positions and new potential portfolio investments
- Adjoining classroom/lab with 30 student stations, each with its own separate computer and two monitors to facilitate students’ working on course assignments, following lectures, working on presentations and researching material on various websites or other sources of data
- Streaming real-time LED stock ticker to keep students abreast of the constantly changing financial markets
