‘A Day for Children’ Empowers Families with Health Literacy

FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, FL—Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is proud to announce its annual health literacy event, “A Day for Children,” hosted by Nova Southeastern University (NSU). This highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library on the university’s Davie Campus. For more than two decades, “A Day for Children” has been a beacon of knowledge, providing essential medical information to more than 100,000 residents, empowering them to make informed health decisions for their children and families.

“A Day for Children” is a remarkable opportunity for families to access free and low-cost health and wellness services for children aged from birth to 16 years. NSU Health students and faculty will be on hand to offer comprehensive health care education and activities, covering vision, medical, speech, behavior, and dental health, as well as physical and occupational therapy. This event serves as a platform for NSU to showcase its commitment to the community’s well-being.

“We are thrilled to once again host A Day for Children in partnership with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital,” said James Hutchens, Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian. “This event not only provides vital health information to families but also highlights the dedication and expertise of our students and faculty in the field of health care — all in a fun-filled family setting.”

In addition to the extensive range of health services, “A Day for Children” promises a day of excitement and entertainment. Families can enjoy an array of free games, activities, and delicious food, making it a perfect outing for all. Local law enforcement and first responders will also be actively participating in various activities throughout the day, fostering a sense of community and safety.

The Alvin Sherman Library staff will be present at the event, offering Alvin Sherman Library cards to children and their families. The librarians will also provide valuable information about the library’s vast resources on health and wellness, ensuring that families have access to reliable and up-to-date information long after the event concludes.

Don’t miss out on this FREE family event! Join us at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital “A Day for Children.” Together, let’s empower families with health literacy and create a healthier future for our children.
