NSU Shark Expert Featured in International Story

For many years, Mahmood Shivji, Ph.D., a research scientist and professor at NSU’s Halmos College of Arts and Sciences, has been studying sharks and all the amazing features of these apex predators. His research has led him to being one of the world’s renowned shark experts, someone who the media routinely go to when they are working shark-related stories.

Recently, Dr. Shivji, who is also the director of the NSU Guy Harvey Research Institute (GHRI) and the Save our Seas Foundation Shark Research Center, was part of a story of a great white shark that showed incredible healing abilities. In his years of research, which includes mapping the entire genome of the great white shark, Dr. Shivji and others have learned that sharks show amazing healing properties. This is something that, as they learn more about these marine animals, could lead to breakthroughs in human health.
