NSU Immersive Med School Camps Offer High-Schoolers Insights into Healthcare Careers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine is holding two medical school summer camps for high-achieving high school students interested in careers in the health careers on NSU’s Davie Campus.

NSU’s Achieve in Medicine (AIM) – High camp will be held in two sessions: Session one will take place from Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11, and session two will take place from Monday, July 14, through Friday, July 18. A more advanced camp for AIM-High graduates (AIM-Higher) will be held from Monday, July 14, through Friday, July 18. The camps provide students with hands-on medical experiences and educate them on the role of technology in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions.

      • Session 1: Tuesday, July 8th, 10:15 – 11:15 a.m.
      • Session 2: Tuesday, July 15th, 10:15 – 11:15 a.m.
    • Therapy Dogs – Terry Building
      • Session 1: Tuesday, July 8th, 4 – 4:30 p.m.
      • Session 2: Tuesday, July 15th, 4 – 4:30 p.m.
    • Immersive Learning Technology in Medical Education – Terry Building
      • Session 1: Thursday, July 10th, 10:45 a.m. – Noon
      • Session 2: Thursday, July 17th, 10:45 a.m. – Noon
  • AIM-Higher
    • Labor, delivery, and infant care – Ziff Building
      • Tuesday, July 15th, 9 – 10 a.m.
    • Lumbar Puncture and Draw Blood – Ziff Building
      • Thursday, July 17th, 9 – 10:30 a.m.
    • Advanced Suturing Techniques – Terry Building
      • Friday, July 18th, 9 – 10:30 a.m.

These annual camps, which attract students from across the nation, are dedicated to recognizing the critical need for healthcare practitioners in an industry facing workforce shortages. Students compete nationwide for spots in the program, where they will get hours of instruction each day from NSU medical students and faculty. The goal is to inspire the participants to further their education in the healthcare field.
