FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. The Spirit Charitable Foundation has announced a generous donation of $30,000 to NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. This funding will enhance exhibition and educational programming and expand year-round free Museum admission for all veterans and their dependents. Additionally, the donation enables the Museum to offer a reduced membership fee of $15 for veterans participating in its highly regarded Creativity Exploration workshops, which use art to promote mindfulness and well-being.

The Spirit Airlines Charitable Foundation will officially present the check to the art museum at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at 1 East Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale.

“We are honored to provide free admission for veterans and their families, ensuring they have access to the enriching experiences that art can offer,” said Bonnie Clearwater, Director and Chief Curator of NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale. “With the support of the Spirit Charitable Foundation, we are also able to make our Creativity Exploration workshops more accessible – this program is a deeply impactful, mission-driven initiative at NSU Art Museum, dedicated to fostering mindfulness and emotional well-being.”

NSU Art Museum’s Creativity Exploration program is a highly regarded series of monthly workshops that emphasize the connection between creative expression and emotional well-being. These workshops use artistic exploration as a tool to promote mindfulness, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellness. By providing veterans with discounted access to these workshops, the Museum aims to further integrate art into holistic well-being practices.

“This generous gift furthers our decades-long commitment to the academic success, health, and well-being of our nation’s veterans,” said NSU President and Chief Executive Officer Harry K. Moon, M.D., FACS, FRCSEd.  “We look forward to engaging with the veteran and military community and their families in the many enrichment opportunities the NSU Art Museum offers.”

The Museum is a division of Nova Southeastern University (NSU), a military-friendly institution dedicated to supporting student veterans and their families. Through NSU’s Comprehensive NSU Health Veterans Care program—funded by the state of Florida—veterans have access to low- or no-cost medical services, including health, dental, vision, and mental health care. As part of its ongoing commitment to the veteran community, NSU also provides resources to assist with the transition from military to civilian life. Through strengthening its connection with NSU’s veteran initiatives, the Museum aims to increase veteran participation in its programming. In collaboration with Broward County’s Veterans Services Section, which offers free advocacy and claims assistance to the county’s nearly 127,000 veterans and their families, the Museum will actively promote these expanded benefits. This partnership underscores a shared mission to provide greater access to arts and wellness resources for those who have served.

“At the Spirit Charitable Foundation, we are committed to making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. We are proud to support veterans and their families by providing access to the transformative power of art, through this partnership with NSU Art Museum” said Linde Grindle, Sevior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, Spirit Airlines and President of the Spirit Charitable Foundation. “By funding free Museum admission and expanding access to the Creativity Exploration workshops, we hope to foster well-being, mindfulness and a sense of belonging for those who have dedicated their lives to serving our country.”
