For 2023, NSU is Now in Top Half of All Schools Ranked
FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – U.S. News and World Report released its latest rankings of colleges and universities, and like our mascot the mako shark, Nova Southeastern University (NSU) continues moving forward!
For 2023, for the first time, NSU is in the top 50 percent of those schools ranked by the publication. From 2017 to 2019, NSU began to climb in the rankings, and experienced a slight decline in 2020 due to approximately 80 new schools being added to the rankings (this dramatically increased the actual rank, while just barely affecting NSU’s relative ranking). In 2023, 50 new schools were added to the overall listings, bringing the total number to 440 institutions of higher learning. While NSU’s ranking number may seem a few spots higher than last year (219 in 2023), the university’s ranking actually improved, and is now in the top half of ranked schools.
“As a national doctoral, high-research university of high distinction, our hard work continues to show as we – for the first time in our history – have broken into the top 50 percent of top universities. Our community should be very proud of their hometown university,” said Dr. George Hanbury, NSU’s President and CEO. “I couldn’t be prouder of our students, faculty and staff.”
U.S. News & World Report ranks schools according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence, such as graduation and retention rates, assessment of excellence and student selectivity. Scores for each measure are weighted to arrive at a final score.
“Continuing to move up in the rankings is quite an achievement,” said Don Rudawsky, Ph.D., NSU’s Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness. “We continue to focus on our core value of being student centered which is reflected in the support we provide to our undergraduate students resulting in record undergraduate student enrollment and improving graduation rates. It’s clear we’re providing what today’s students want in their university.”
Some of the NSU highlights include:
- NSU remains an A+ school for B students;
- NSU remains a top school for ethnic diversity (only 12 national universities have a higher Diversity Index);
- Tied at 123 for Social Mobility. This ranking “measures the extent schools enrolled and graduated students who received federal Pell Grants”;
- In 2023, NSU breaks into the list of Best Value Schools at 97. This ranking “factors academic quality and cost after accounting for total expenses and financial aid”;
- In 2023, NSU breaks into the list of Best Colleges for Veterans, tied at 145. To be included in this ranking, a school must rank in the top half of their USNWR category (National Universities) and demonstrate veteran support benefits and services.
